If you have seen these beautiful pictures of chia seed pudding or parfaits but thought making them is too much of a hassle, we have got you covered! This is actually the easiest thing to make!

Chia seeds are edible seeds that come from the desert plant Salvia Hispanic, a flowering plant in the mint family that grows in Central America and Mexico. The seeds are almost flavourless and are a good source of omega, iron, calcium, fibre, magnesium and antioxidants.

You can sprinkle them on any salad, add them to a smoothie or even make a pudding.

Chia seed pudding is a good breakfast if you are on the run or if you are not much of a morning person. This is a base chia seeds pudding recipe, meaning you can chop and change as you want!

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon of raw honey
  • Sometimes I add cacao, cinnamon, nutmeg – all depending on what your overall flavour profile you are going for.
  • Fresh berries, desiccated coconut, nuts, nut butters, granola, sliced bananas or any other fruit.

Instructions:

  1. Combine milk and honey in a small jar, bowl or glass. Taste it, you can also add any of the optional extras to boost the flavour.
  2. Add chia seeds and give your mixture a good stir, for about 5-10 minutes (if you don’t stir it, the seeds will clump at the bottom and instead of creamy pudding you will get chia seeds with liquid on top)
  3. Cover your bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (ideally overnight).
  4. Before serving stir it once again, top it with fresh berries, fruits, nuts (or anything you like).
  5. Your healthy (Instagram-worthy) breakfast is ready to enjoy!

There is no doubt that chia seeds are a great source of protein, fibre, calcium, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acid. But, remember there is no miracle food, so do not have any unrealistic expectations. If you haven’t tried chia seeds before they will be a great addition to a well-balanced diet!
